چکیده

Non-linear phenomena can often be described using probability density functions (pdf) and pdf transport models. Traditionally the simulation of pdf transport requires MonteCarlo codes based on Lagrangian “particles” or prescribed pdf assumptions including binning techniques. Recently, in the field of combustion, a novel formulation called the stochastic-field method solving pdf transport based on Eulerian fields has been proposed which eliminates the necessity to mix Eulerian and Lagrangian techniques or prescribed pdf assumptions. In the present work, for the first time the stochastic-field method is applied to multi-phase flow and in particular to cavitating flow. To validate the proposed stochastic-field cavitation model, two applications are considered. Firstly, sheet cavitation is simulated in a Venturi-type nozzle. The second application is an innovative fluidic diode which exhibits coolant flashing. Agreement with experimental results is obtained for both applications with a fixed set of model constants. The stochastic-field cavitation model captures the wide range of pdf shapes present at different locations.

Influence of nozzle geometry and injection conditions on the cavitation flow inside a diesel injector

Cavitation and turbulence in a diesel injector nozzle has a great effect on the development and primary breakup of spray. However, the mechanism of the cavitation flow inside the nozzle and its influence on spray characteristics have not been clearly known yet because of the internal nozzle flow complexities. In this paper, a comprehensive numerical simulation is carried out to study the intern...

Eulerian simulation of bubble columns reactors and effect of various parameters on the gas holdup

Gas holdup and bubble size are important parameters for simulation and designing in bubble column reactors. Because based on these parameters, the available gas-liquid interfacial area is defined for mass transfer. In this paper, the results of applying magnetic fields on the velocity field and volume fraction of gas holdup are reported. Hydrodynamics of the bubble column in the reactors is inv...

An Anti-diffusion Based Eulerian Interface-sharpening Algorithm for Compressible Two-phase Flow with Cavitation

We describe a novel interface-sharpening approach for the efficient numerical simulation of compressible two-phase flow with cavitation. The algorithm uses a five-equation transport model developed by Allaire et al. (J. Comput. Phys. 181 (2002) 577-616) as the basis, and incorporates both the auxiliary antidiffusive terms to the equations as a model for interface sharpening and an energy-preser...

A moving-mesh relaxation scheme for one-dimensional barotropic two-phase flow with cavitation

Cavitation is commonly defined as a phenomenon in a liquid-flowing system when the pressure of the liquid falls sufficiently low in some region of the flow so that vapor bubbles are formed. The study of the dynamics of cavitation is an active research in many fields of science and engineering. Typical examples in relation to various features and characteristics of cavitating flows can be found,...
